Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how Chen Yao ("we," "us," or "our"), the developer of the YardMate mobile app (the "App"), collects, uses, and shares information when you use the App. By using the App, you agree to this Privacy Policy.
1. Information We Collect
We collect only what we need to run the App's features.
- Photos and images you provide. When you take or select a photo to identify a plant, diagnose a plant problem, or set a plant's cover image, we process that image to deliver the feature. Identification and diagnosis images are sent to third-party recognition providers (see Section 3). Cover images you create while signed in are stored in our cloud storage; if you are not signed in, they stay on your device.
- Account information. Signing in is optional and uses Sign in with Apple. We receive the name and the email address you authorize Apple to share (you may hide your email using Apple's Private Email Relay). The App is fully usable without an account.
- Content you create. Plants you add to your garden, care schedules and reminders, care history, and notes.
- Subscription information. YardMate Premium is sold through Apple's In-App Purchase. Apple processes your payment; we do not receive or store your payment card details. We receive your subscription status to unlock premium features.
- Device and technical information. To operate the App securely and prevent fraud and abuse, we use a device identifier and basic technical information about your app and requests.
- Analytics and usage information. We use Google Firebase Analytics to understand how features are used and keep the App working well — for example, in-app events (screens viewed and actions taken), your subscription status (Free or Premium), and basic device information such as device model, OS version, and app version. We do not use this to advertise to you. If you are in the EEA or UK, analytics stays off until you opt in, and you can turn it on or off anytime in Settings.
We do not use third-party advertising networks, and we do not sell your information or use it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
2. How We Use Information
- To provide plant identification, plant-problem diagnosis, and plant care information.
- To store and sync your garden, reminders, care history, and cover images — across your devices when you are signed in.
- To process and manage your YardMate Premium subscription.
- To secure the service, prevent fraud and abuse, and enforce our Terms of Use.
- To provide support and respond to your requests.
- To comply with legal obligations.
3. How Images and Data Are Shared (Service Providers)
To deliver the App, we share limited information with service providers who process it only on our behalf — for example:
- Apple — for Sign in with Apple, In-App Purchase, and related app services.
- Cloud infrastructure providers — for authentication, database, and file and image storage and delivery (hosting your account, garden, reminders, care history, and cover images when signed in).
- Plant identification and diagnosis services — when you submit a photo for identification or diagnosis, the image is sent to third-party and AI-based image-recognition services to return a result.
- Analytics provider (Google Firebase). We share in-app usage events, your subscription status, and basic device and app information (such as device model, OS version, and app version) with Google Firebase Analytics so we can understand how features are used and improve the App.
We may also disclose information when required by law or to protect the rights, safety, and security of our users, the public, or YardMate, and in connection with a merger, acquisition, or other business transfer (with notice where required).
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
4. Data Retention
We keep your content while your account is active or as needed to provide the App. You can delete individual items (garden plants) in the App at any time. When you delete your account, we delete your account and its associated content from our systems (see Sections 5 and 6). Limited technical logs may be kept briefly for security, then deleted or anonymized.
5. Your Rights and Choices
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or export your personal information, and to object to or restrict certain processing.
- Access and correct — most of your data (garden) is visible and editable directly in the App.
- Delete — you can delete individual items in the App, or delete your entire account (see Section 6).
- EEA/UK (GDPR/UK GDPR) — rights of access, rectification, erasure, portability, restriction, and objection, and the right to complain to your supervisory authority.
- California (CCPA/CPRA) — rights to know, delete, and correct, and not to be discriminated against for exercising them. We do not sell or "share" personal information as those terms are defined.
To exercise a right, use the in-App controls or contact us at privacy@yardmate.ai.
6. Delete Your Account
You can permanently delete your YardMate account at any time: Delete Account. You can also do this from Settings → Account.
When you delete your account:
- Your account and your cloud-stored content — garden records, reminders, care history, and cover images — are permanently deleted from our systems.
- If you used Sign in with Apple, we revoke the App's access to your Apple ID.
- Content stored only on your device is removed from the App on that device.
This action is permanent and cannot be undone. If you're not signed in, you'll be asked to sign in first so we can delete your account.
7. Data Security
We protect your information using encryption in transit, access controls, and other safeguards. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to safeguard your information.
8. International Transfers
Your information may be processed in the United States and other countries where we and our service providers operate. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards for such international transfers.
9. Children's Privacy
The App is not directed to children under 13 (or under 16 in the EEA/UK), and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will update the "Last updated" date above and, for material changes, provide notice in the App.
