About Eden

Eden, also sold as Pierre de Ronsard, is a French romantic climbing rose bred by Meilland in 1987 and voted the World's Favorite Rose in 2006. Producing heavy fully-cupped old-rose-style blooms in pale pink blending to cream with deeper pink hearts, it grows 8 to 12 feet and blooms repeatedly from late spring through fall. The heavy romantic blooms embody the modern old-rose renaissance style in American gardens.

History

Illustrated historical scene for Eden

Rosa 'Eden' (also sold as 'Pierre de Ronsard' in honor of the sixteenth-century French poet, and 'Eden Climber' in some markets) is a climbing romantica rose bred by French hybridizer Jacques Mouchotte at the Meilland nursery near Antibes, released in 1985 from a complex cross involving 'Danse des Sylphes', 'Händel', and 'Kalinka'. The quartered fully double cupped blooms, up to twelve centimeters across and carrying over forty petals, open a rich creamy ivory with a rose-pink heart and soft pink flushing that deepens in cool weather, evoking the full-bodied form of French old-rose paintings. The cultivar was voted World's Favorite Rose by the World Federation of Rose Societies in 2006, one of the highest honours in the rose world.

Light old-rose fragrance. The moderately vigorous climber reaches three meters and is one of the most photographed roses in wedding and garden photography.
