Red Meidiland is a French-bred groundcover shrub rose from Meilland International, producing carpets of single bright red flowers with white centers and golden stamens from late spring through fall. History

Rosa 'Meidiland Red' (officially 'Red Meidiland', French: 'Rouge Meidiland') is a low-spreading groundcover shrub rose bred by Marie-Louise Meilland at the Meilland nursery near Antibes, France, released in 1987. It was part of the pioneering Meidiland series that Meilland launched in the mid-1980s to create extremely tough, self-maintaining landscape roses for parks, median plantings, and municipal use. The dense low-mounded plant spreads about 1.5 meters wide, carrying continuous large clusters of small single cherry-red blooms with white eyes and golden stamens from late spring to heavy frost.

Red-orange hips ripen in autumn and persist into winter. The Meidiland series as a whole (red, white, pink, coral, scarlet) preceded and in many ways anticipated the later Knock Out breakthrough in easy-care landscape roses.

Bred by Marie-Louise Meilland in France in the 1980s, Meidiland roses were developed for highway and public landscape use where no-spray, low-care performance was essential. Red Meidiland became one of the most widely planted landscape roses in American commercial plantings from the 1990s onward.
