Sun Sprinkles is a modern miniature rose bred by Michael Williams and introduced in 1999, winning both the AARS and ARS Award of Excellence. Producing clear bright yellow double blooms with spicy fragrance on a tidy 18 to 24 inch plant, it blooms continuously from spring through frost. One of few miniatures to win AARS recognition, it remains a top yellow mini in American gardens.

History

Rosa 'Sun Sprinkles' is a deep yellow miniature rose bred by Dr. Keith W. Zary at Jackson & Perkins, released in 1999 from proprietary parentage. The cultivar is one of the rare miniatures ever to win the All-America Rose Selections award, receiving the honor in 2001 for its combination of high clean color, exceptional disease resistance, vigorous compact growth, and notable fragrance, all qualities often lacking in commercial miniature cultivars. The perfectly formed hybrid-tea-shaped blooms, just four to five centimeters across, open and hold a rich clear deep yellow without fading to cream, carried on a compact bushy 50-centimeter plant with glossy dark green disease-resistant foliage.

A moderate sweet fragrance, unusual in the miniature class, adds to the appeal. Excellent for small gardens, containers, and the front of mixed borders.

Bred by Michael Williams and introduced in 1999, Sun Sprinkles won both the All-America Rose Selections award (rare for a miniature) and the American Rose Society's Award of Excellence. It remains one of the most celebrated yellow mini roses in American gardens.
